Debenhams buys Danish chain

Debenhams has bought Magasin, a leading department store chain in Denmark for £12.3million.

It has bought the entire share capital of Wessell & Vett, Magasin du Nord, the holding company for the chain, from Magillum.

The 141-year-old Magasin trades from six stores in Denmark including its flagship Kongens Nytorv store in Copenhagen city centre.

Debenhams trades from 157 stores in the UK and Ireland and 52 international franchise stores in 17 countries.
